The Omniscient - Chapter 7: Strange Technique

Thank you for the grammar feedback Dalek (Dr. Who reference?)! I appreciate it a lot. English is my first language so there's no need to hold back on me. Yes, asking if your skin is itching is a metaphor for saying you're asking for a beating. I thought it translated pretty well into English. To me it even sounds like something that might be said in English.

Lu Zongmin could not accept these results. Never could he have imagined that Liang Yuan didn't know a single thing! Liang Yuan had double-crossed them together with that couple, but in the end the money had nothing to do with her and she didn't know where the Buddha sculpture was. How could he have known that Liang Yuan's only goal at the time was to be free of the trafficking group, it was never about the money.

"Fuck! I screwed up..." It was clear to Lu Zongmin that the couple must have already ran away. He'd have to go searching for the two of them again if he wanted to know the location of the golden Buddha.

"Send her on her way. Let's go." Lu Zongmin said with a sigh. Even though he was wearing a mask, he still wanted to play it safe. Unbeknownst to him, if he hadn't wanted to kill her, Huang Ji might have just watched them get away; but letting Liang Yuan die was something Huang Ji couldn't allow.

Huang Ji pulled out the small loudspeaker he'd taken down earlier and then activated the alarm.

        "Beep beep beep beep beep!"

Instantly, the sound of the noisy alarm pierced through the silent night. Caught up in his thoughts, Lu Zongmin was reminded of the trap he'd laid upon suddenly hearing the alarm outside.

"Someone's come up the mountain? Finish her now, and then we need to get off this mountain asap!" Lu Zongmin roared in a low growl.

Hearing this, Huang Ji felt a sense of defeat. By preemptively triggering the alarm he'd given them ample time to run away, but they still didn't forget about silencing the witness. In regards to this, Huang Ji had no choice but to step forward.

"One two three four, two two three four..." Not only did Huang Ji step forward, he was even counting numbers while doing morning exercise stretches, running out of his hiding spot like a complete idiot. Lu Zongmin was still wondering about the person who'd come up the mountain when he saw a village boy running over like a fool while doing stretches.

"Huh?" The three people under the moonlight were dumbfound.

        "Who's this?"

"I think he's from the village at the foot of the mountain, he's the one who triggered the alarm, right?"

Lu Zongmin said impatiently, "What a fool. Lil' Liang, look's like you've got a partner!" As he finished speaking, he waved his hand and Hu Feng rushed over to grab Huang Ji.

Liang Yuan also saw Huang Ji from the house and shouted in distress, "Don't hurt him, he's just an idiot, he doesn't know anything!"

"An idiot?" Lu Zongmin paused. Indeed, Huang Ji did seem like an idiot. Not sleeping in the middle of the night and running around in the wild while talking to the air.

Hu Feng was very close to Huang Ji. Upon hearing this, he took another look at Huang Ji and immediately said in realization, "Oh, that's right! I saw him before when I was staking out the clinic! He's a well known retard in the surrounding villages!" Finishing speaking, he picked up Huang Ji with one hand and dragged him into the house.

"Hey...let me go...let go of me...Dr. Liang! You're bleeding!" Huang Ji struggled around, his tone of voice was indeed like someone who had a problem with his brain. Hu Feng was not very wary of a weak-minded teen, simply holding him by the collar with an expression of disregard. This was Huang Ji's advantage. Everybody knew that he was an idiot, this was a natural disguise; but he didn't expect these people to have any pity towards him for being an idiot.

Lu Zongmin said coldly, "You've got some bad luck retard."

"Don't touch him! He's just an idiot, he won't know what you're doing right now, let him go please!" Liang Yuan knew that she was going to die today, but she wanted to save Huang Ji, which is why she purposely made him seem even dumber...but despite his classy appearance, Lu Zongmin was in fact a ruthless man. He didn't do it himself, instead patting Hu Feng's shoulder and having him commit the deed.

Hu Feng nodded his head, holding Huang Ji in one hand while tightening his grip on the knife in his other, saying, "Next life don't be a retard!"

        Liang Yuan screamed, "No!"

"Don't hit me!" Huang Ji struggle fiercely, his arms and legs flailing about. In the process, his fingers had somehow jabbed into the area right below his armpit.

Hu Feng was in the middle of restraining Huang Ji when he got jabbed below the armpit, knocking the air out of him. "Cough...ugh..." Hu Feng opened his mouth, his arms falling limp and his body arcing over. His throat was making gasping noises, for the moment he'd somehow lost the ability to breath.

Huang Ji took the opportunity to contract his body and break free of Hu Feng's grip.

"Feng, what's up with you?" said Lu Zongmin in shock, his hand slapping Hu Feng's back.

Hu Feng's mouth was wide open, saliva drooling from his mouth. Lu Zongmin's slap made him cough again before finally catching his breath. He slurped up his saliva and said, "Holy crap...fuck...I had my fucking soul knocked out of me!"

Wang Zhen laughed out loud, "You dumbass! Looks like you need to be taught how it's done! I'll do it!" Finishing speaking, he picked up the knife and stabbed it straight towards Huang Ji's heart.

Seeing their continued disregard towards Huang Ji, Liang Yuan yelled, "Run! Run away Huang Ji!"

Huang Ji did not run, instead ducking down with his hands over his head, dodging the attack. His actions didn't look like a dodge because he had already gotten out of the way before Wang Zhen had even made a move; this made it seem like it was just luck. Huang Ji then exploded upward, his head rocketing into Wang Zhen's chest.

Wang Zhen was furious. He felt his chest tighten and stars swirling in front of his eyes, Huang Ji's headbutt had temporarily stunned him. Seeing this, Huang Ji performed a stretch seen in radio calisthenics1. In his tomfoolery, his palm haphazardly struck the region three inches below Wang Zhen's armpit in his oblique rear.

"Fucking...Ahhh!" Wang Zhen wanted to raise the knife, but he felt his arm go numb and half of his body had gone completely limp.

"Kill him!" yelled Lu Zongmin. He had no clue what was going on with Wang Zhen. Wang Zhen also thought to himself: There's no way I can't beat a retard.

Taking over the knife with his left hand, he stepped forward to slit Huang Ji's throat. But Huang Ji then did another chest stretching movement that just so happened to clip the funny bone on his other arm, causing the knife to fall to the ground with a clang. Going with the momentum, he followed it up with a leg kicking exercise. In his flurry of kicks, one of them randomly landed somewhere on Wang Zhen's calf. To everyone's surprise, they saw Wang Zhen fall to the ground with a thud, kneeling in front of Huang Ji and unable to stand up.

"What the fuck, why are you kneeling!" Lu Zongmin was flabbergasted.

"I...p-p-pulled a muscle!" Despite being a big, well-built guy, pulling a muscle was still a painful experience for Wang Zhen. He didn't stop a just kneeling, even lying down on the ground and curling up in pain, unsure of what to do.

"Useless!" Lu Zongmin pushed Hu Feng and roared, "Stop making excuses and finish him!" They were't making excuses, there really was something strange with this idiot. His random flailing about had somehow resulted in him losing his breath and Wang Zhen pulling a muscle! Of course, Hu Feng was merely a bit short of breath. He'd already recovered in this short period of time and menacingly lunged toward Huang Ji.

Huang Ji was still there doing his radio calisthenics. Like a stubborn fool he said, "Dr. Liang, Wang Meng said you were kidnapped! Is it them?"

        "Run!" Dr. Liang shouted urgently.

Huang Ji stood there blankly, seemingly still processing what she had said. Hu Feng didn't care about any of the drama, knocking Huang Ji into the wall with a heavy punch.

Huang Ji held his stomach while still saying like a fool, "Ouch!" He then proceeded to do a turning exercise, his body turning half a circle to the left and then half a circle to the right, his elbows abruptly flaring out and sinking into an area at Hu Feng's waist.

Hu Feng let out a yelp like he'd just been electrocuted, falling to the ground, unable to close his mouth. He lied on the ground unable to move, half of his body had gone numb and he'd even lost control of his facial expressions!

"Seriously! What the hell are you guys doing!" Lu Zongmin stamped his feet violently. What the hell was wrong with these two people! How did two big guys like them get defeated by a couple of erratic taps?

Kneeling on the ground, Wang Zhen roared, "There's something weird about this kid and his strange technique! Gah...I'm still cramping!"

"What strange technique, the retard's doing radio calisthenics!" Lu Zongmin roared back in hysteria. What a useless pack of idiots! The two of them were defeated by a retard using radio calisthenics?

Lu Zongmin thought: Maybe he's not a retard? But after seeing the process of how Huang Ji had defeated the two people, along with the fact that instead of running away, he had instead chosen to approach Liang Yuan, he immediately crossed this thought out of his head. This was clearly a retard.

Liang Yuan was overwrought with distress. Even though she didn't know how Huang Ji had somehow managed to defeat the two thugs, she knew that now was the perfect opportunity to escape. "Run Huang Ji! Call the cops! Go!" she screamed.

But Huang Ji simply occupied himself with untying the rope, speaking in a naive manner, "You're hurt Dr. Liang, I'll carry you down the mountain." With the rope untied, Liang Yuan gritted her teeth, standing up despite the immense pain and stumbling away with Huang Ji in tow

Seeing this, Lu Zongmin lunged forward prepared to finish them himself. He may have been a pencil pusher who'd never really fought before, but he thought that he was still perfectly capable of dealing with a heavily wounded woman and a retard.

"You're not going anywhere!" Lu Zongmin blocked the path to the only door, closing in on them with knife in hand.

Liang Yuan let go of Huang Ji's hand saying, "I'll hold him back, you run...Hey! Don't!" Her intent was to hold back Lu Zongmin while Huang Ji ran away, but Huang Ji was much faster and had already rushed forward ahead of her.

"Ahhhhhhh!" Huang Ji yelled at the top of his lungs, his arms spinning around like a giant windmill. It was the famous windmill punch technique! Hu Feng and Wang Zhen were both very big and well-built, but Lu Zongmin was a different story. As a young sixteen year old farm-boy who didn't actually have any problems with his IQ, Huang Ji didn't need any special techniques to beat him.

With just this set of windmill punches, Lu Zongmin's face was already battered and bruised; but because he had a knife, he was still able to go back and forth with the 'wild' Huang Ji. The two of them were tangled together, faces red and necks stretched; they had entered a statement. Lu Zongmin was fuming in his mind: Even I can fight this kid, there's nothing special about him at all. Why couldn't those two fools beat him? How did they get defeated?

They were making a big commotion, not to mention the fact that Huang Ji had purposely triggered the alarm before appearing; the result of this was that upon hearing the alarm, the cops at the bottom of the mountain had immediately started running up and had now arrived at the scene.

"Stop!" Sergeant Chen shouted, rushing in from the door and knocking the two people over. The rest of the cops then followed up and subdued everyone there on the ground besides Liang Yuan.

Huang Ji didn't resist, lying on the ground and even saying with a smile, "Wang Meng, I found Dr. Liang!"

"Wait wait wait, Sergeant Chen, he's from our village!" Wang Meng hurriedly said after seeing Huang Ji.

Liang Yuan then also said, "Huang Ji came up here by pure chance. Those people wanted to kill me and him. He saved me!"

Sergeant Chen let go of Huang Ji. Huang Ji stood up cheerfully and then started spacing out. He always had a habit of spacing out, the villagers were all used to it.

Liang Yuan quickly explained to the cops everything that had just transpired. Huang Ji continued to stand there spacing out. There was no need for him to say a word, somebody would explain everything for him.

Seeing the cops arrive, Lu Zongmin and his accomplices had already lost all colour in their faces; and looking at Huang Ji's stupid, blank appearance made them unable to accept their defeat, anger churning in their hearts. All he did was flail around recklessly, after fighting him for a while, Lu Zongmin thought that he had a 50-50 chance of beating Huang Ji. How did those two idiots lose to him!

But none of this mattered anymore. Now that the cops had them, all Lu Zongmin could think about was how to explain himself and who he should hire to be his defense attorney. As for Liang Yuan, with her knowledge of the three of them, he had to get rid of her to stop her from providing information to the cops.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. This chapter was definitely a small climax for the beginning of the novel.

The Omniscient - Chapter 12: Internet Data

Just wanted to address a review I saw. While there are elements of Chinese nationalism (duh), it's pretty good compared to other urban Chinese novels. Doesn't mean it's good, but for me it's tolerable. It just stands out because, a) it's China, and b) we're unused to it. Many works of fiction tend to highlight or emphasize their country of origin. This novel is no different. Like if the novel said USA is the center of the universe, you probably wouldn't bat an eye. But China... Of course, I can understand if anyone feel's uncomfortable about it.
